The Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC) is a cross-industry organization advancing global technologies for smartphone-to-car connectivity solutions. CCC is developing Digital Key, an exciting new open standard to allow smart devices, like smartphones to act as a vehicle key. Digital Key will let drivers lock and unlock their cars, and even let them start the engine and share access to friends or valets, using their phones. CCC previously developed and launched MirrorLink®, an open standard for connecting apps between the smartphone and the car. MirrorLink® is currently used in millions of cars and smartphones. CCC includes a large number of stakeholders, including Car OEMs, Tier-I suppliers, Phone Manufacturers, and App Developers.

The Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC) is a cross-industry organization advancing global technologies for smartphone-to-car connectivity solutions. CCC is developing Digital Key, an exciting new open standard to allow smart devices, like smartphones to act as a vehicle key. Digital Key will let drivers lock and unlock their cars, and even let them start the engine and share access to friends or valets, using their phones. Another project, Car Data, will create an ecosystem to link the ever-expanding set of vehicle data to authorized data usage, such as pay-how-you-drive insurance, road monitoring, and fleet management. CCC previously developed and launched MirrorLink®, an open standard for connecting apps between the smartphone and the car. MirrorLink® is currently used in millions of cars and smartphones. BARCELONA, Mobile World Congress, – The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), an organization focused on enabling seamless mobile device-to-vehicle connectivity, today announced the completion of Phase One of the Digital Key specification, documenting the state-of-the-art of commercially available Digital Key solutions. Digital Key represents an industry milestone for an interoperable solution that enables smart devices like smart phones and smart watches to act as a digital key for any vehicle, allowing drivers to lock, unlock, start the engine and share access to the car. The Phase One specification is undergoing final member review and will be made available to all CCC members in Q2’2018. In ongoing work, Digital Key will be optimized to enable even more vehicle and smart phone companies, building the basis for a Digital Key ecosystem which will scale over the whole industry.

Digital Key

Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) is developing an open standard for use of smart devices as digital keys for automotive. The solution will be car and smart device agnostic. It will enable consumers to conveniently lock/unlock the vehicle and start the engine along with other interesting features. The solution will also enable provisioning and sharing of keys with properties associated with them. The Digital Key specification will be built on existing standard technologies such as Global Platform, GSMA, Bluetooth, and NFC. CCC is also collaborating with other standardization organizations to create a lean and efficient solution. The first phase of Digital Key specification is targeted for completion by the end of Q1 of 2018.
